STANDARD 10: SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

The teacher fosters relationships with school colleagues, parents, and agencies in the larger community to support students’ learning and well-being.

Being a pre-service teacher I needed more practical experience working with students.  In order to gain this experience I began substitute teaching in my school district a couple of days a week. 

Recently I had the opportunity to work for Murray Learning Services who is partnered with New York State and N.C.L.B.  Through Murray I have become a tutor for a group of 5th grade students who need extra help in mathematics and E.L.A. 

Although my service with Murray has just begun I am beginning to see how important communication is between the student, his/her parents or guardian, the classroom teacher, the special education teacher (if applicable) and me, the tutor.

In order for set appropriate goals for the student it is my responsibility to formulate a learning plan that addresses individual learning needs for each student.  The learning plan includes such information as the initial evaluation that was used to determine weaknesses in understanding and learning goals that I will set for the student based on the results of the initial evaluation.
