The teacher plans instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and curriculum goals.

Planning instruction around content, student interest, community involvement and curriculum is a balancing act all teachers must accomplish.  Teachers must be on the cutting edge of student interests and effective teaching methods to maintain an atmosphere of passionate learning. 

In a practicum setting at an urban high school I witnessed first hand how curriculum and good instructional practices allowed for authentic learning.
