“The teacher understands and uses formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social, and physical development of the learner.”

As a means of formative assessment I administered a pre-test to the students at the practicum setting.  The pre-test allowed me to understand what the students in the class already knew about the topic that I was about to teach.  The pre-test consisted of vocabulary words that would be introduced within the novel Monster by Walter Dean Myers of which the learning unit was based.

As a form of summative assessment I administered the same test as a post test to assist me in understanding what the students had learned from the unit and where my teaching needed more focus.
