STANDARD 9: REFLECTIVE PRACTICE: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The teacher is a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of his or her choices and actions on others and who actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally.

Personally evaluating or being evaluated by another professional after teaching a lesson is a wonderful opportunity to learn from your mistakes and also take pride in your strengths.  Through the evaluation and reflection process teachers can grow and move towards excellence.

After implementing a learning unit based on Walter Dean Myers’ novel Monster, I reflected on how the lessons I wrote were received by the students and ways in which I might change the lessons to improve overall understanding.
